WHY HEMP? WHY CBD?
The Hemp plant is a relative to its more ‘notorious’ cousin Marijuana. However, Hemp has no psychoactive compounds such as THC like Marijuana does. Hemp has been used for centuries for making durable clothing, paper, and presently is known to be useful for production of rope, textiles, shoes, food, bioplastics, insulation, and biofuel! Hemp is making a comeback because of its quick growth cycle which reduces the need for traditional paper and textile sources such as trees or cotton, which have slower growth rates and higher water consumption (hemp saves nearly 50% on water consumption!).
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, a chemical component in Hemp and Marijuana. However, Hemp actually produces considerably more CBD than Marijuana. According to Harvard Health, CBD has been used effectively in treating epilepsy syndromes and it is commonly used to reduce anxiety, insomnia, arthritis inflammation and chronic pain due to neuropathic pain.
However, there are many claims out there that CBD is a cure-all for cancer and all sorts of other illnesses. There is insufficient scientific evidence at this point in time to make those sorts of claims and as there may be side-effects of CBD usage (as with any product), we encourage you to not to disregard the advice of physicians, doctors and trusted medical practitioners regarding its usage.
CBD contains anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it is very popular when used in a balm for muscle aches, strains, arthritis and joint pain. It may also be beneficial for certain skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. (American Academy of Dermatology)
CBD is safe to use but every body is different and all body chemistries do not respond the same. If you feel an adverse reaction decrease the amount or stop usage until you’ve discussed it with a doctor or trusted practitioner.
